A New Mechanic: Empower Jace
The main new Reality Fracture mechanic is Empower Jace.
Whenever a card instructs you to empower Jace, one of two things happens.
If you already control a Jace planeswalker token, you add the specified number of loyalty counters to it.
If you do not control one, you first create a blue Jace planeswalker token with 0 loyalty, then add the required loyalty counters.
The token has two abilities:
- −1: Surveil 1;
- −3: Draw a card.
Unlike most Jace planeswalkers, these tokens are not legendary.
It is therefore possible, under the right circumstances, to control several of them at the same time.
The mechanic gradually turns Jace into a recurring source of value and perfectly reflects his constant presence throughout the Echoverse.
The New Heartwood Tokens
Reality Fracture also introduces Heartwood tokens.
A Heartwood token is a red and green artifact that can produce:

When a permanent becomes prepared, a copy of its preparation spell is created in exile.
