One Piece OP-17 "The World’s Strongest Warriors": The 4th Anniversary Strategy Guide

The One Piece Card Game is about to cross a major structural milestone in August 2026. The OP-17 expansion, titled "The World’s Strongest Warriors", is not just a simple booster set: it is the commemorative edition for the game's 4th anniversary. Between its legendary theme, unprecedented rarities, and a logistical revolution, here is why this set is already considered the most important of the year.

A Logistical Revolution: The End of the Global Release Gap

The most radical change introduced with OP-17 is the global synchronization of releases. For the first time, Bandai is nearly aligning launch dates between Japan and the West:

  • Japanese Release : August 22, 2026.
  • International Release (FR/EN) : August 28, 2026.

This strategy removes the usual multi-month "buffer" that allowed Western players to analyze the Japanese meta in advance. From now on, the meta will be discovered globally in real time, causing a massive surge in immediate demand and an instantaneous convergence of prices on the secondary market.

The Theme: The Elbaf Arc and the Four Emperors

The set focuses on the most iconic powers from Eiichiro Oda's work. The title "The World's Strongest Warriors" echoes two narrative pillars:

  1. The Elbaf Arc : The massive introduction of Giants, featuring the highly anticipated arrival of Loki, the cursed prince.
  2. The Four Emperors (Yonko) : A celebration of both generations of emperors, including Whitebeard, Kaido, Big Mom, Shanks, as well as Buggy and Blackbeard.

The "Chase" Card Portfolio: Unprecedented Luxury

Bandai designed OP-17 as a luxury product for collectors, introducing never-before-seen rarity hierarchies:

  • The First-Ever "Manga Leader" : History is in the making with the first Leader card to receive the Manga treatment. Monkey D. Luffy (OP17-079) inaugurates this tier, featuring an iconic quote text and an estimated launch value between $2,500 and $3,000.
  • The 4 Manga Rares (Old Generation) : The four original emperors — Edward Newgate, Kaido, Charlotte Linlin, and Shanks — all receive the Super Parallel (Manga Rare) treatment in this very same set.
  • The Gold Special Parallel (SP) : The current generation of emperors (Luffy, Shanks, Buggy, Teach) is honored with cards featuring luxurious gold finishes.
  • The "Sketch" Style (Conqueror's Haki) : Six SP cards showcase a brand-new black-and-white sketch art style, framed by red lightning symbolizing Conqueror's Haki, including legends like Gol D. Roger and Silvers Rayleigh.
  • Treasure Rare : This ultra-rare tier, above Secret Rare, will once again be the linchpin for sealed box value.

Meta Analysis: The Giant Invasion

On the competitive side, OP-17 introduces the Elbaf-related "Giant-Cost" engine.

  • Loki Mechanics (OP17-119) : This Secret Rare card features a flexible cost: it costs 6 during your turn, but its cost spikes to 18 during the opponent's turn.
  • Luffy Synergy (Black Leader) : The new Luffy Leader grants the Blocker ability to all characters with a cost of 12 or higher, turning Loki into an impassable 11,000-power wall during the opponent's combat phases.
  • Mono-Color Leaders : The set rebalances the game with highly powerful mono-color leaders (Green Shanks, Red Whitebeard, Purple Kaido, Yellow Big Mom), compensating for their lack of flexibility with low-resource-cost abilities.

Expert's Eye: Market Outlook

Historically, anniversary sets (such as OP-09 or OP-13) maintain high premiums on the sealed market. OP-17, with its ultra-dense rarity structure (Manga Leader + 4 Manga Rares), is positioned to become the most opened and collected set of 2026.

Strategic Advice : Due to the simultaneous global release, preorder allocations are extremely tight. Prices for Japanese boxes are already soaring (up to 280 CHF for preorders from certain importers like JapHunter). If you are a player, target mono-color SRs early; if you are an investor, sealed product remains the priority asset before the total sell-out expected as early as the first week of September.
